Stairway to Heaven

I took this photo last June at the Yuba River in Nevada City. A very special spot to me. Looking at this photo today it makes me think of this as the Stairway to Heaven. If only it were that easy to climb a few stairs to see our loved ones that we miss so much.

"If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I’d walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again."

Make a Wish

This photo is deceiving as this dandelion was the size of a grapefruit. If you wanted to make a wish...wouldn't you want one this size to blow into the air and make that wish? I believe the chances would be better for those wishes to come true. So...what would you wish for?

“Sometimes things become possible if we want them bad enough.” ~T.S. Eliot

Longing for vacation

After another crazy, busy week I am longing for vacation. Reminiscing about waking up to this beautiful sunrise in Sitges, Spain last September. Remembering how relaxed we were, how incredible each day was and thinking about going back again.

"Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow." ~Douglas Pagels, These Are the Gifts I'd Like to Give to You

Missing home

We watched a movie last night that was filmed in Carmel. Amazing how images and sounds can make you so homesick. Would live there again in a heartbeat if we could make it happen. So many wonderful memories. I can smell and feel the salt air when I look at this photo. If I close my eyes I can hear the waves crashing on the rocks, the seagulls cawing and the sea otters cracking shells on their chests as they float amongst the kelp.

"I find myself at the extremity of a long beach.  How gladly does the spirit leap forth, and suddenly enlarge its sense of being to the full extent of the broad, blue, sunny deep!  A greeting and a homage to the Sea!  I descend over its margin, and dip my hand into the wave that meets me, and bathe my brow.  That far-resounding roar is the Ocean's voice of welcome.  His salt breath brings a blessing along with it."  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, "Foot-prints on the Sea-shore"

Winter Feathered Friends

Our feathered friend does not appreciate the snow and ice we had last week.

We make sure they always have plenty of food and water but he still looks a bit disgruntled.

Perhaps he is wishing that he had made this little place his home so he had somewhere warm to snuggle with the Mrs.

"Let there be a cottage.... a real cottage... a white cottage, embowered with flowering shrubs, so chosen as to unfold a succession of flowers upon the walls, and clustering round the windows through all the months of spring, summer, and autumn—beginning, in fact, with May roses, and ending with jasmine. Let it, however, not be spring, nor summer, nor autumn—but winter, in his sternest shape..."  ~Thomas De Quincey
